OhoPrice editorial review

The Oppo A54 at Rs 59,999 is difficult to recommend on paper. The Helio P35 is a 12 nm chip from 2019 — it struggles with modern apps, and the PowerVR GE8320 GPU cannot handle anything beyond basic gaming. The 720p display at roughly 270 PPI on a 6.51-inch panel is below average for the price. With only 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, this phone offers less memory than competitors costing Rs 15,000 less. The 13 MP main camera with f/2.2 aperture produces acceptable daylight images but falls apart in anything other than bright conditions. The 5000 mAh battery is its saving grace, delivering reliable all-day endurance. This phone only makes sense for buyers who are specifically loyal to Oppo's brand and need a simple, reliable device for calls, messaging, and light browsing — and even then, alternatives exist at lower prices within Oppo's own range. The Samsung Galaxy A17 costs Rs 7,500 more but delivers a dramatically better experience: an AMOLED display at 1080p versus the A54's 720p LCD, a Helio G99 on a 6 nm process versus the outdated Helio P35, 6 or 8 GB RAM versus 4 GB, and a 50 MP camera system versus 13 MP. Both phones share a 5000 mAh battery. The Galaxy A17 also benefits from Samsung's longer software update commitment. At Rs 67,499, the A17 is not cheap, but the A54 at Rs 59,999 offers specifications that belong in the Rs 30,000 bracket. The only scenario where the A54 wins is if Samsung's higher price pushes the buyer beyond their budget — but even then, Oppo's own A76 or A6C offer better value at lower prices. The Oppo A54 is widely PTA-approved, but given its poor value proposition at this price, consider whether a newer model within Oppo's range might serve you better.
