OhoPrice editorial review

The Oppo A78 at 64,999 PKR sells on polish and storage rather than speed. The 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is a generous combination for the price, the 6.43-inch 1080x2400 panel is crisp at around 409 PPI with a 90Hz refresh, and the slim 7.9mm body feels refined for an entry-to-mid device. Underneath, though, is the Snapdragon 680 4G, a 2022-era chip that is fine for messaging, browsing and light apps but will struggle with demanding games, and there is no 5G. The 50MP main camera with PDAF takes respectable daylight shots, while the second lens is only a 2MP depth sensor, so there is no ultrawide and no macro. The 5000mAh battery is dependable and easily clears a day. This is a phone for buyers who prioritise brand reliability, memory and everyday smoothness over camera flexibility and raw power. At 2,500 PKR more, the Samsung Galaxy A17 upgrades the important parts: a Helio G99 that outclasses the A78's Snapdragon 680, an AMOLED 90Hz display with richer blacks versus the A78's panel, a proper 5MP ultrawide added to the 50MP main, and a 13MP selfie against the A78's 8MP. The A78 fights back only with its larger 8GB/256GB memory versus the A17's 6 or 8GB with 128 or 256GB options, though 256GB storage parity is possible on the A17's higher tier. For the modest premium, the A17 is the better all-rounder; the A78 only makes sense if you specifically want 256GB storage in a compact, well-built Oppo without paying the extra 2,500 PKR. As a 2022 model, verify PTA approval through DIRBS before purchase.
